Historic Activities at Convention
The Stellafane Clubhouse and the Stellafane National Historic Site
Don't forget to visit the Stellafane Clubhouse - standing on the summit of Breezy Hill, completed in 1924 and proudly pink!
It is a mini-museum inside, with artifacts and photos the STM have collected over the years. It also has 3 telescopes poking through it's walls.
Also on Breezy Hill is the 1930 Porter Turret Telescope, and it will be open for solar observing during sunny days. This is a unique telescope with the optics outside and the eyepiece inside.
Dedicated in 2018, the Simoni Observatory houses a circa-1930's Hale Spectrohelioscope. This solar viewing instrument can look at the sun in any visual wavelength. Solar prominences and sunspots will be on view if the sun is out.
New Downtown Museum
We have opened a new downtown history museum In partnership with the Springfield Art & Historic Society. The museum will have rotating display that will make our collections more accessible, and we will be able to show how both Stellafane and Springfield grew and prospered in the 1900's as innovative leaders in Telescope Making and Machine Tool design.
Check schedule for operating hours. The museum is located in the Great Hall at the Springfield Health Center. For weekend access, you need to park in the lot off of Pearl Street.
Land Use Hike
Stellafane East has seen varied uses over the years. Came take a walk with us to places you have likely not seen at Stellafane, and you hosts will describe who owned this land since the 1850's and what they did with it. The many stone walls tell only part of the story, deeds and newspapers tell more. See the schedule for time and meeting location.
